about
The Looneys are a band of the times. Formed as a songwriting project between five friends and stalwarts of the Minneapolis music scene. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and life went socially distanced, so did the band. Songs are built one instrument or vocal at a time. Each member records their part at home, and the only rule of the project is to embrace total freedom in doing so. The next person is then chosen at random, and they add whatever their heart desires to the song. This dimension of the writing process has been creatively liberating for the band, so they can't wait to get their hands dirty and get back to work in the song mines. "Days Crawl By" began with a train beat drum track, then bass guitar was added and built the framework for the song, followed by banjo, guitar, mellotron, vocals (lyrics written about the life we're currently living), strings, backing vocals, ukulele, and mandolin. Then Jillian Rae, a friend of the band, added a harmonized lead vocal to make it a duet. James Gould, Chris Holm, Ben Miller, Jay Scabich, and Mark Larson are The Looneys. Enjoy!
lyrics
I’m just sitting here starin’ out the window at the empty streets outside
The city’s never been so quiet, but under a heavy foot of snow
A fresh new year is blooming, The birds they are returning, The springtime sun is shining bright
But there’s trouble in the air, and I’m locked down alone with no end in sight
And the days crawl by
Is it Monday, is Tuesday, is it Wednesday, Thursday, I don’t even know
And the days crawl by
Does it even matter when you got no one to see, no place to go
Well, guess I’ll drink another whiskey, watch some TV, maybe call my ma
See if she’s behaving, staying home, isn’t feeling too alone
And the days crawl by
Is it Monday, is Tuesday, is it Wednesday, Thursday, I don’t wanna know
And the days crawl by
Does it even matter when you got nothing to do, no place to go
Babe, when this is over we gonna jump into the car and take a drive
As long as I got you by my side, it don’t matter where we go
We’ll drive around the city, out to the country, our windows open wide
Breathe in the air more deeply than we ever done before
And the days crawl by
Is it Monday, is Tuesday, is it Wednesday, Thursday, I don’t even know
And the days crawl by
Does it even matter when you got no one to see, no place to go
